As I was reading through the
"Pacific Northwest Magazine" section of
today's Seattle Times, the headline of the
"On Fitness" column caught my eye:
"Take a Walk". Writer Richard Seven
notes that October is National Walking Month, also
known as "Walktober". A quick Google
online tour indicates that communities and
universities around the country, from California to
Utah to Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, Massachusetts,
Minnesota, North Carolina and many others, have
chosen to participate in this month-long program.
For more information - maybe to plan for next year -
here's the link to the Walktober web site: http://www.walktober.com/
I especially agree with one of Mr.
Seven's points, that it would be great to encourage
walking well after October ends and the specified
number of steps is reached.

Staying healthy is well worth a small investment of
time and money. The pharmacists I have spoken with
say that there should be no shortage of flu vaccine
this year, so it should be available regardless of
our age, occupation or location. This is an
especially important precaution for those of us in
the health care professions who have direct patient
contact. If you haven't done so already, do
look into it.

re: Renewal of
Certification (Volume 108)
Hi Gayle -
As Recertification Chair for ASPMA, all PMAC's will
receive their recertification packet around April 1,
2006. The three pages will also be published
in the January 2006 JOURNAL. When a PMAC
renews in 2006 all 20 credits must come from
meetings, JOURNAL questionnaires, health fairs, CPR
certification, etc., obtained in 2005.
There were 7 questionnaires published in the
JOURNALS during the 2005 year. If all answers
are correct, the PMAC receives 5 points for each
questionnaire.
If any PMAC's have questions, the e-mail for these
is:
PMACINFO@aol.com

re: Squeaky Orthotics
(Volume 108)
I too have had that problem with my orthotics, which
at times can prove to be QUITE embarrassing. I
have found that rubbing around the edges and the
bottom of the orthotics with paraffin wax (or an old
candle) has helped alleviate the problem completely.
I have had to "re-apply" the wax about
twice in two years....but it works A LOT better than
powder......Farewell to the squeaks!

Has Bob tried applying wax to the back & sides
of the orthotics?

re: Scrubs
(Volume 108)
I am also interested in finding out if anyone
designs "scrubs" with podiatry in
mind.
Easy to find baby "pink and blue" feet but
not much otherwise. Thanks.....

re: Training Resources
I have been enjoying your website. What is the
best way to a find good training manual for
assistants. Maybe video based?
Wasn't sure the best place to ask. Maybe under
networking on your site next time?
Thanks

Here we are again, counting down the few remaining
days of Daylight Saving Time. Early next
Sunday, October 30th, we "fall back" to
Standard Time until next spring. For me, the
return to more daylight on April 2, 2006, can't come
soon enough!
Thanks to all the letter-writers who contributed to
this issue. We're looking forward to the next
batch of mail!
